3 Day Desert From Marrakech Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

We begin early with a pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. As we drive through the High Atlas Mountains, you’ll see winding roads, dramatic peaks, and small Berber villages along the way. We’ll stop often for photos and breaks.

Our first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most iconic sights in Morocco. You’ll have time to walk through the ancient kasbah and imagine what life was like here centuries ago. After lunch nearby, we continue through Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco” and drive into the Dades Valley. The scenery becomes more dramatic as we approach our guesthouse for the night, nestled between red cliffs and green fields. Dinner is included, and it’s a peaceful place to rest before the desert leg of the journey.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, we set off toward the Sahara. Depending on the season and road conditions, we’ll visit either the Dades Gorges or the towering canyon walls of Todra Gorges, a favorite spot for climbers and nature lovers.

From there, we head to Merzouga, reaching the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes by late afternoon. This is where the real adventure begins. Your camels will be waiting to carry you across the golden sand as the sun begins to set behind the horizon. It’s a quiet, beautiful moment, just you, the desert, and the fading light.

At the camp, you’ll be welcomed with tea before enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner. Afterward, we gather around the fire for Berber music and stories. Then it’s off to your tent for a night under the stars, an experience many of our guests say is the highlight of their trip.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert → Nkob → Draa Valley → Marrakech

We wake up early to catch the sunrise, soft light over the dunes is worth the early hour. After breakfast, we return by camel or 4×4 to meet our driver and begin the journey back to Marrakech.

We take a slightly different route back, passing through Alnif, Nkob, and the beautiful palm groves of the Draa Valley. There’s time to stop for breaks, photos, or a relaxed lunch before continuing through the mountains and arriving in Marrakech by early evening.

We had an unforgettable time with True Morocco Travel. From the moment our driver picked us up in Marrakech, everything was smooth and well-organized. The landscapes changed so beautifully throughout the journey, and the camel ride into the dunes at sunset was something we’ll never forget. The camp was cozy and peaceful, and dinner under the stars was the perfect ending to our day.

We traveled with our teenage daughter and she loved it just as much as we did. The car rides were long but scenic, and we stopped often to take photos or stretch. The camp was clean and surprisingly comfortable. Dinner was delicious, and the staff even accommodated my vegetarian diet without any hassle.

We wanted to see the desert but were concerned about comfort on such a long journey. We needn’t have worried. True Morocco Travel clearly prioritizes quality. Our driver, Ibrahim, was a testament to this; he was incredibly safe, smooth, and professional, navigating the mountain roads with an expert touch that put us completely at ease. The 4×4 vehicle was modern, clean, and very comfortable.
The accommodations they selected were fantastic. The riad in the Dades Valley was a charming and welcome respite, with a delicious dinner and a lovely room. The luxury camp in the desert was the biggest surprise—a beautiful, spacious tent with an en-suite bathroom was not what we were expecting in the middle of the dunes! We felt so well taken care of throughout the entire trip. It was all the adventure without any of the discomfort. We highly recommend them to anyone who values a professional and comfortable experience.

I’ve done a lot of tours over the years, but this one had a special feeling to it. Maybe it was the way the light hit the dunes, or the way our guide shared stories from his hometown. It didn’t feel rushed or too touristy, just real and beautiful.

The camel ride was bumpy but so much fun, and the desert camp had a calm, relaxed vibe. I loved sitting by the fire and listening to Berber music. The team from True Morocco Travel really takes care of every little detail. I’d go again in a heartbeat.
