2 Day Desert From Marrakech Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Merzouga Desert

We’ll start early, your driver will meet you right at your riad or hotel in Marrakech. From there, we head south through the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass. The views are stunning, and we always stop along the way so you can stretch, take photos, and breathe in the mountain air.

Our first major stop is Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Morocco’s most iconic kasbahs. After spending some time exploring and grabbing lunch nearby, we continue through Ouarzazate and pass the palm-filled valleys of Skoura and the beautiful gorges of the Dades or Todra, depending on the season and road conditions.

By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga. This is where the real desert begins. Your camels will be waiting to take you across the dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun begins to set. The ride is peaceful, and the light on the sand is something you’ll carry with you for a long time. At the camp, you’ll be welcomed with tea and dinner. We’ll enjoy music around the fire before settling into our tents for the night under the stars.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert → Draa Valley → High Atlas Mountains → Marrakech

Wake up early to catch the sunrise, it’s worth it. After breakfast at the camp, we’ll ride back by camel or by 4×4, depending on your preference. Then we begin our return journey to Marrakech.

We’ll take a different route through Alnif and Nkob, passing through the wide Draa Valley. There’s plenty of time to stop along the way for photos, lunch, or a quick tea break. Our goal is always to return you safely and comfortably to Marrakech by early evening, with enough time to rest or enjoy your last night in the city.

I recently went on a 2-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga with True Morocco Travel, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! Our guide, Hassan, was simply fantastic. He was warm, knowledgeable, and really made the journey feel special.
