Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary Marrakech to Fes

Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas → Ait Ben Haddou → Todra Gorges → Merzouga Camel Trek & Camp

Our journey together begins early as we pick you up from your riad in Marrakech. We’ll immediately begin our ascent into the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at an elevation of 2,260 meters. The views are simply stunning, with dramatic valleys and traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides.

Our first major stop is the incredible Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. As you wander through this ancient, mud-brick fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site and backdrop for films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones, you’ll feel transported back in time. We’ll continue through Ouarzazate and follow the route of a thousand Kasbahs through the Dades Valley and into the Todra Gorges, where towering red cliffs create a spectacular natural corridor.

By late afternoon, we arrive at the edge of the Sahara in Merzouga. Here, your camels will be waiting to carry you on a magical trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun sets, casting a warm, golden light over the sand, we will arrive at our beautiful luxury desert camp. A delicious traditional dinner, the soul-stirring sound of Berber drumming, and a sky full of stars await you. This is a night you will never forget.

Day 2: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Middle Atlas → Cedar Forest → Ifrane → Fes

The day begins with an unforgettable Sahara sunrise, a truly serene and awe-inspiring moment. We encourage you to wake early to watch as the dunes awaken with the first light. After a refreshing breakfast at the camp, we begin our journey north towards Fes.

Our route takes us through the lush, palm-filled Ziz Valley, a stunning oasis that feels like a mirage after the desert sands. We then climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the landscape transforms once again. We’ll stop at the Cedar Forest near Azrou, home to a friendly community of Barbary macaques. Feel free to watch them play from a respectful distance.

Our last stop before Fes is the charming town of Ifrane, often called “Morocco’s Little Switzerland” for its pristine alpine-style architecture and cool climate. By evening, we will arrive in the ancient, soulful city of Fes, where we will drop you off at your accommodation. Your Marrakech to Fes tour concludes here, leaving you perfectly placed to continue your Moroccan adventure.

We honestly weren’t sure if this tour was even possible. To see the Atlas Mountains, Ait Benhaddou, AND the Sahara Desert, then end up in Fes all in just two days sounded crazy. But True Morocco Travel are masters of logistics! It’s a fast-paced adventure, for sure, but our driver, Omar, made it feel exciting rather than rushed. The first day is a long, beautiful drive that ends with the most magical sunset camel ride into the desert. The camp was fantastic and the stars were mind-blowing. The next day, you wake up to a desert sunrise and journey through totally new landscapes to Fes. It’s the ultimate Moroccan road trip. If you’re short on time, this is the most incredible way to see the country’s highlights.

I was a bit nervous about booking such an intense tour on my own, but my experience was absolutely perfect. My guide and driver, Hassan, was the consummate professional. He was kind, respectful, and made me feel completely safe and at ease from the moment he picked me up. He wasn’t just a driver; he was a wonderful companion, pointing out interesting sights and sharing stories about his culture. The long drives felt like a road trip with a trusted friend. The desert experience itself was a dream, and having everything so well-organized meant I could just relax and enjoy the magic. I can’t recommend True Morocco Travel enough, especially for other solo female travelers.

Let’s be clear: this tour is a marathon, and the success of it depends almost entirely on the driver. Our driver, Said, was an absolute legend. He is a superhero. His driving skill through the winding mountain passes was incredible, and his stamina on the long, straight desert roads was just as impressive. He did it all with a smile, a great sense of humor, and a playlist of fantastic Berber music. He was more than a driver; he was our guide, our photographer, and our host. The man is a true professional who clearly loves his job and his country. The tour itself is amazing, but it was Said’s expertise and kindness that made it truly unforgettable.

Yes, the drives are long. But think of them as the price of admission for one of the most magical nights of your life. Every minute spent in the comfortable 4×4 is paid back a thousand times over when you are on that camel, watching the sun dip below the endless orange dunes of Erg Chebbi. The silence is absolute. The beauty is overwhelming. The desert camp was lovely, the tagine was delicious, but it’s that feeling of peace under a sky blanketed with stars that will stay with me forever. The rest of the trip is a bonus. If you are chasing that one perfect, soul-stirring desert experience, this tour delivers it. It’s so, so worth it.

We needed to travel from Marrakech to Fes and were considering a flight. Choosing this 2-day tour instead was the single best decision of our entire trip. It transformed a boring travel day into the absolute highlight. Why fly over a country when you can drive through its very heart? You get to see the dramatic changes in landscape, from mountains to deserts to forests, all while being transported comfortably to your next destination. It’s an adventure and a transfer all in one. The logistics were flawless, the vehicle was modern, and the experience was priceless. Don’t just travel between the cities, experience the journey with True Morocco Travel.
