Our incredible Fes to Marrakech desert tour begins this morning as we meet you at your accommodation in Fes. Leaving the medieval city behind, we start our ascent into the breathtaking Middle Atlas Mountains. Your first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, often called “Morocco’s Switzerland” for its alpine-style chalets and pristine parks. It’s a fascinating contrast to what lies ahead. We will then journey through ancient cedar forests, keeping an eye out for the friendly Barbary macaques that call this region home.

As we continue south, the landscape transforms dramatically. You will be completely mesmerized by the Ziz Valley, a brilliant ribbon of green palm groves that cuts a path through the arid pre-Saharan landscape. It is a stunning sight and a lifeline for the communities here.

The final leg of our drive takes us towards the desert’s edge, where the first majestic sand dunes of Erg Chebbi rise to meet the horizon. Upon arriving in Merzouga, we will welcome you to your beautiful and comfortable hotel, where you can relax before an incredible day to follow.

Today is a day dedicated entirely to the magic of the Sahara. After a relaxing breakfast, we will embark on an incredible 4×4 desert excursion to explore the diverse landscapes around the Erg Chebbi dunes. This is your chance to see the desert beyond the towering sand, from black volcanic rock plains to seasonal lakes. A highlight of this adventure is the chance to sit and share mint tea with a local nomadic family in their hand-woven tent. It is a genuine, humbling glimpse into a resilient way of life that has endured for centuries.

Later, we will visit Khamlia Village, a community famous for its Gnawa musicians. You will feel the powerful, rhythmic history in their soulful music and vibrant performances. In the late afternoon, your camel caravan awaits. You’ll begin your iconic camel trek into the heart of the golden dunes, a peaceful and truly unforgettable journey that allows you to feel the rhythm of the desert.

We time it perfectly to watch the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery colors. Your camel will lead you to our beautifully appointed desert camp, where a delicious traditional dinner and the sounds of Berber music around a crackling campfire await you, all under an unbelievable blanket of stars.

Waking up early in the desert is a spiritual experience. We encourage you to witness the Sahara sunrise, as the first light crests the dunes and brings the desert to life in shades of pink and gold. After a wonderful camp breakfast, you will ride your camel back to Merzouga to meet your driver. We say goodbye to the Sahara for now and begin our journey west towards the mountains.

Our path takes us to the magnificent Todra Gorge, a massive trench carved by the Todra River. The canyon walls here soar over 300 meters high, creating a spectacular natural corridor. We will stop to give you time to walk along the river, feel the cool air, and truly appreciate the immense scale of this geological wonder. From there, our Morocco desert adventure continues to the equally stunning Dades Gorge. Famous for its winding roads and unique “monkey fingers” rock formations, the Dades Valley is a photographer’s dream, dotted with ancient kasbahs and lush greenery. You’ll settle into your comfortable hotel nestled in the heart of the gorge for the evening.

On the final day of your Fes start Marrakech end tour, we will journey along the famous “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Our first major stop is in Ouarzazate, a city known as the “Hollywood of Africa” and home to some of Morocco’s largest film studios. We then travel to the jewel of the region: the incredible Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the most extraordinary fortified villages in Morocco. As you explore its ancient mud-brick walls and winding alleyways, you will feel transported back in time, and you may even recognize it from films and series like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

After exploring this historic marvel, we begin our final, dramatic drive. We will cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains, navigating the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. At an elevation of 2,260 meters, it is the highest major mountain pass in North Africa, offering awe-inspiring panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. As we descend from the mountains, the landscape will shift one last time, revealing the plains that surround our final destination.

In the late afternoon, we will arrive in the vibrant, bustling city of Marrakech, where we will drop you off at your accommodation, marking the unforgettable end of your 4-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour.
