Welcome to True Morocco Travel. We are so glad you are considering this special journey through the northern heart of our country. We have personally crafted this 5-day tour to be the perfect introduction to Morocco’s rich tapestry of culture, color, and history, starting from the iconic port of Tangier. Our promise is to guide you on a seamless, comfortable, and deeply authentic adventure, revealing the magic that lies between the Rif Mountains and the grand imperial cities.
Your Moroccan discovery begins the moment you arrive. We will be there to personally welcome you at the port or airport in Tangier, the mythical city where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. After a warm greeting, we will embark on a scenic drive south through the green and rolling Rif Mountains. You will feel the world slow down as we approach our destination. As we arrive in Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue City,” you’ll feel its tranquil charm as soon as you see the blue hues washing over the hillside. We will take you to your charming riad, where you can settle in and take your first exploratory steps into this captivating town.
Today is dedicated entirely to soaking in the unique beauty of Chefchaouen. After a relaxed breakfast, you have the full day to explore one of the prettiest towns in the world. We encourage you to wander without a map, getting lost in the maze of brilliant blue alleyways. Every turn reveals a new photo opportunity: a colorful flowerpot against a blue wall, a beautifully carved wooden door, or a cat sleeping in a sliver of sun. You can stroll through the main square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, visit the historic Kasbah, and perhaps hike up to the Spanish Mosque for a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire blue city bathed in afternoon light. This is a day to breathe deeply and let Chefchaouen’s peaceful atmosphere enchant you.
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the Blue City and journey towards the heart of Morocco’s imperial history. Our first major stop is the incredible Roman ruins of Volubilis. This UNESCO World Heritage site was once a thriving Roman capital, and you can still walk its main streets, admire stunningly preserved mosaics, and imagine life in a bygone era. From there, we continue to the powerful Imperial City of Meknes, also a UNESCO site. We will explore its monumental city walls and grand gates, most notably the majestic Bab Mansour. After soaking in the history of Meknes, we complete our day’s journey, arriving in the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco, Fes. Here, you’ll check into your traditional riad, resting up for tomorrow’s deep dive into the city.
Prepare to be mesmerized. After breakfast, you will be met by a licensed local guide for a full-day tour of Fes, the oldest of the imperial cities. Your guided tour will take you deep into the Fes el-Bali, the ancient walled medina, a sprawling labyrinth of over 9,000 alleyways where time seems to stand still. You will experience the sights, sounds, and scents of this incredible city as we visit the famous leather tanneries, the Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, one of the oldest in the world. Your guide will share stories and insights, bringing the history of this living museum to life. This immersive Fes guided tour is a true highlight of any trip to Morocco.
On our final day, we journey from the medieval to the modern. After breakfast, we depart Fes and head towards the coast, arriving in Rabat, the current capital of Morocco. Here, we will explore the city’s key historical sites, including the elegant Hassan Tower, the beautiful Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the picturesque Kasbah of the Udayas, a walled fortress with narrow blue and white streets overlooking the Atlantic. After our exploration of the royal capital, we will continue our journey down the coast to Casablanca, Morocco’s economic powerhouse. Depending on your departure schedule, we may have time to visit the exterior of the magnificent Hassan II Mosque before we ensure your comfortable drop-off at the airport, concluding your unforgettable 5-day tour of northern Morocco.
We suggest budgeting for daily lunches (approximately 10-15 EUR per person), drinks, souvenirs, and entrance fees. The amount can vary greatly depending on your personal spending habits.
Yes, this tour is wonderfully suited for a wide range of travelers. We’ve hosted families with young children and more senior guests with great success. Because the tour is private, we can adjust the pace. The driving days are broken up with plenty of interesting stops. The only consideration is the camel ride, which is optional; anyone who prefers not to ride a camel can be driven directly to the camp in our 4×4 vehicle.
Yes, we absolutely do. Moroccan cuisine is very adaptable. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have any allergies, we can ensure your meals are delicious and safe. Please just inform us of your dietary needs at the time of booking so we can make the necessary arrangements with our partner hotels and our camp cook.
Moroccans are warm and welcoming. We recommend dressing modestly, especially when visiting rural areas or religious sites (covering shoulders and knees). Always ask for permission before taking a photo of a person. Your guide will offer helpful advice throughout your journey.
As a history lover, this itinerary was exactly what I was looking for. Standing in the middle of the Roman ruins at Volubilis was breathtaking. The guided tour of Fes was exceptional; our local guide was so knowledgeable and gave us a deep appreciation for the city’s complex history. This tour is so much more than pretty sights; it’s a deep dive into the soul of Morocco’s imperial past. A fantastic, well-paced, and enlightening experience.
This tour was absolutely perfect. Chefchaouen was even more beautiful than in the pictures, and having a full day to just wander and take photos was a dream come true. The contrast between the tranquil blue city and the bustling, historic medina of Fes was incredible. Our driver, Youssef, was professional and kind, and the entire trip was organized flawlessly. I came home with thousands of photos and even better memories. Thank you, True Morocco Travel!
